This is my latest vase from the ancient desert series.
It is inspired by the dreaming story of the Rainbow Serpent, who winds its way through the land creating the waterholes and underground waterways as it goes...here in the desert, the story tells of how the mother serpent travelled searching for a safe place to lay her eggs...and when she came to Uluru, she found a safe place and curled up there to hatch her babies...
I made the vase out of Raky clay with lots of sand to create a rustic fossil like feel to it...the serpent is carved into the surface showing the wave like movement snakes make when travelling through the desert sand....and I have used black iron oxide to give it a brown metallic colour...
