Now that the weather has finally warmed up, Ive started running classes and workshops from my home studio in Annerley, Brisbane. I'm keeping it relatively Covid safe, by working outdoors on my verandah too... I'm going to be running regular art journaling classes and one day weekend workshops on a variety of topics including felting, negative watercolour painting and the big one everyone has been asking about: Intro to Botanical Perfumery! (which will be in November, dates to follow) I'll be keeping you updated as the dates for each one are set, so here goes! So I'm starting off with a regular class in Art Journaling!

Well, I now have 2 months to find a new home. both to live and sleep in, but for me primarily for my workshop. And Im looking around at all the tools and paints I have spread out around my workshop, which is actually the formal living room in the house we've been living in in suburbia... half finished paintings and ceramics, all of my perfume gear still in boxes from the last move...and a series of possible classes and workshops in the next months that I can't prepare for till I have somewhere to work from again.... What I really need, and crave, is a nice old fashioned artisan work studio with glass windows out the front, and a small apartment above it to live in. You know the way crafts people used to live! And it seems impossible to find. I used to have a proper perfume studio in Byron Bay, in the old arts and industry estate, where decades ago, arty types moved into old warehouses and set up house there. My perfume studio was delightful, full of light and with lovely concrete floors so I didn't need to worry about spilling anything on the carper (which I do quite a lot) It was too small to live in...and the rent even then was sky high...nowadays a tiny warehouse there goes for 1.5 million. Here in Brisbane that kind of thing just doesn't seem to exist. All of the artist studios for rent I have seen are really expensive and seem to be rented for a month or a few weeks at a time for people working on " a project"...and then they rent exhibition space for $2000 for 2 days and have a hosted "opening" before packing it all up again... I just want a place where I can work and people can drop by to look at what Im doing, do some classes....where I can go back upstairs and have lunch, and then relax at the end of the day... |
