Endurance and Death
“I am your Plant Ally in times when you are dealing with sickness and death…I help heal body and soul, and bring understanding of the travel between life and death. I belong to the Element of Earth because I connect to the deep history of human kind…I am also of Air, in my form of incense, carrying messages to Spirit in the Beyond. Burn my resin as incense and I will help to open your third eye to visions of the otherworld and to help you communicate with the dead. Carry me with you in cloth bundles to give you endurance”

I am an ancient desert tree that traditionally grows in in Africa and Egypt in rocky areas, with limestone ground, though as you can see I can even be grown in tropical places like Brisbane.
I am a small, shrubby tree around 4m tall that can survive heat and drought and live for up to 50 years,. My gnarled and twisted boughs spread out as they grow and provide and shady, cool haven for animals and birds during the heat of the day, and cool the soil allowing other plants to grow in my shelter. I have rough, grey bark and beautifully shaped trifold soft furry leaves that stop water from evaporating, allowing me to thrive in high rocky dry desert areas where so few other plants can live…
My sap, myrrh, is what humans value so deeply…harvested by cutting my bark, I bleed and people collect the sap and dry it. Dusky brown and dark and unassuming looking, its worth more by weight than gold. The name Myrrh itself comes from the Arabic word “Mur” meaning “bitter”….
My sap is antiseptic, antiviral and preserves….
the pharaohs used my sap to embalm the bodies of the dead…
They also burned it as incense to connect to the other realms, and in honour of their gods….
Tinctured in alcohol, my sap is strongly antiseptic and healing on so many levels…from infected wounds, mouth ulcers to cleansing the blood, and have even been used to treat leprosy and syphillis, and can be sprinkled onto tropical ulcers to dry and disinfect when nothing else works…. I am a medicine to heal so many ills…
my myrrh resin has been burnt as incense on hot coals in temples in Africa and Egypt for centuries, giving a scented smoke that creates a feeling of magic and Otherworld….
My resin is also used in perfume and modern aromatheray….it has a dark and sombre scent, with musk and ash, amber and wood and a metallic after taste….a sense of age, of ancient hidden libraries, of quiet distinction.
My scent helps to connect to the otherworld, and sooth the souls of those who have lost a loved one….
I bring wisdom…and the deep mysteries…
